If you are moving during the summer months, you’ll want to know which dates are the most convenient for you and your family. While you can typically request time off from work at any period (whether it is paid time off is decided by an individual’s employer), your kids’ school schedule is not as flexible. Whether your children are still attending elementary school, middle school, and high school, or they are already off to college – you’ll want to move during the summer days when they are free.
When Is Peak Moving Season & Why?
Moving companies see the most business during the months of April through September, and they are the busiest during the summer months of June, July, and August. Not coincidentally, these are months when most families are taking breaks from work and school. Some families go on vacation, while some families move.
A long period of time, free from outside obligations and commitments, moving in the summer gives you and your family the freedom to truly focus on relocating and then adjusting to a new neighborhood. Unsurprisingly, plenty of families schedule their moves for the summertime. While the high demand often means higher movers’ rates, the convenience of a summer move may be worth it.
Best Dates to Schedule a Summer Move in Georgia
What are the ideal dates during summer break to schedule your residential move?
So, the last question that needs to be answered is “when is the best time during summer break to move into a new house?” When deciding which date to schedule your moving day, you’ve got to consider when your kids will be out of school.
In Georgia, the majority of public schools typically close for the summer in the first week of June. This year summer break starts on June 7, 2019, and ends on the first day of school, September 3, 2019. If your kids are still in primary or secondary school, scheduling a move between these dates would be a good bet.
Summer school classes start up in the third week of June and end in the third week of July. This year, summer school lasts from June 17 to July 25, 2019. If your child needs to attend summer school, schedule your move before June 17 or after July 25.
For college kids that either stay at home or need help with relocating, the majority of Georgia colleges and universities stop their Spring semesters by the third week of May. Summer semesters typically begin in the last week of May and end in the first week of July or August. Check with your kid’s specific college calendar first, but, most likely, you can schedule a move in between the Spring and Summer semesters, or in between Summer and Fall semesters.
