This Quiet Georgia Suburb Was Just Named the Best Place to Live in the U.S.

Here’s what makes it stand out.

The spotlight is officially on. U.S. News & World Report has unveiled its 2025–2026 rankings for the Best Places to Live in the U.S., and leading the list is a charming Georgia suburb that’s often flown under the radar.

Johns Creek, located just north of Atlanta, has claimed the No. 1 spot among 250 cities, beating out well-known contenders like Carmel, Indiana, and Pearland, Texas.

Described in the report as a community where “tree-lined streets, a strong sense of belonging, and high quality of life intersect,” Johns Creek is now being recognized as one of the most desirable places in the country to call home.

To determine the rankings, U.S. News evaluated 859 cities using data focused on quality of life, affordability, the job market, and overall desirability. Johns Creek earned top marks in several key areas, including 24th in quality of life and 13th in the job market, while also landing in the top quartile for desirability at No. 110. It also secured the top rank for low crime, significantly contributing to its overall standing.

Skylar Topper, a Compass real estate agent and lifelong Johns Creek resident, believes its appeal lies in its balance of lifestyle offerings.

John's Creek Has Just Been voted the best place to live.

“From upscale shopping and dining to convenient highway access, we’ve got it all,” Topper shared with U.S. News. “It’s a little bubble of a community. Growing up here, it always felt like a hidden gem—and it still is.”

Ranked as Georgia’s 10th-largest city, Johns Creek also stands out for its diversity. Lynn Pennington, former president of Johns Creek Beautification, says this cultural richness plays a key role in the city’s tight-knit atmosphere.

“There’s a genuine friendliness here that might be rooted in Southern hospitality,” Pennington noted. “That welcoming nature, combined with access to strong employment opportunities for highly educated residents, has attracted a diverse population. It’s this blend that’s helping shape an even stronger, more connected community.”

With its growing reputation, Johns Creek might not stay under the radar for much longer—but its charm and quality of life are sure to remain.
